As we have explained in our previous posts, REIMEX Group has been working for several months on the design and construction of photobioreactors intended to be practical in their use, intuitive, automated, and above all productive.

The cultivation environment has a huge impact on the microalgae produced at an industrial level, in fact the operating conditions significantly influence the performance of the strains.

The growth of microalgae is therefore influenced by many environmental parameters, such as the availability of light, CO2 and nutrients, but also the density of the culture, the mixing speed, the temperature and the pH. Controlling and optimizing the operating parameters therefore determines a great potential to improve productivity on a large scale. It is also essential to optimize the accumulation of macromolecules and metabolites of industrial interest, which diversify depending on the type of sector in which the use of microalgae is intended. In particular, in our case, it is a matter of carrying out a careful characterization of specific molecules of agronomic-environmental interest.

We are particularly pleased to inform that, from the data collected so far, the growth rate of Spirulina in the REIMEX GROUP proprietary photobioreactor has now reached laboratory levels and we can boast obtaining an algal concentration four times higher than that obtained from open culture systems (open ponds) and more than double that achieved on average in closed cultures.

In terms of quality, we boast levels of macromolecules in our product in the high range of this type of cyanobacteria.

The study and research of REIMEX, carried out in cooperation with the laboratory of the Department of Civil, Chemical and Environmental Engineering (DICCA) of the University of Genoa, are therefore leading to the finalization of a new process for obtaining biostimulants based on Spirulina, a micro-alga with a thousand potentialities that represents an interesting and promising innovation in the field of the production of algae-based biostimulants.

In fact, in the fertilizer sector macro algae are usually used (e.g. Brown Algae) which, however, require very large and dispersive cultivation systems, including aquaculture directly in the sea.
